LAVALE Helen Marguerite (Ridder) Bray, 92, of Valley View Drive, LaVale, graduated on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, completing her lifelong education with high honors.
Born Dec. 14, 1924, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Henry McCullough Ridder and Mabel Perle Fulk.
She was also preceded in death by her son, John David Bray, and her sister, Betty Evelyn (Ridder) Harsh.
She was a graduate of Oakland High School.
Mrs. Bray was a faithful member of the LaVale United Methodist Church. She was also active in her community garden club.
She and her husband, Darl Bernard Bray, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Feb. 2, 2017. They spent 70 years together traveling the world, enjoying and experiencing their lives together to the fullest.
Mrs. Bray is survived by her husband, Darl Bernard Bray; her son, Nicholas Todd Bray Sr. and wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, William Joseph Bray, Tabitha Lynn (Shoemaker) Fish, Cynthia Marie (Shoemaker) Jarrell, Julie Christina (Bray) Crawford, Patricia Renee Shoemaker, Jacki Danielle (Bray) Atkinson, Sandra Lee Shoemaker, Nicholas Todd Malcomb, Patrick Wayne Malcomb, Nicholas Todd Bray Jr., and Jennifer Miranda Bray; and her great-grandchildren, Allison Atkinson, Hannah Bray, Amaya Fish, Brayden Crawford, Carli Atkinson, Caleb Jarrell, Ella Tran, Emily Bray, and Ben "BJ" Bray. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Sandy (Harsh) Vielhaber and husband, Thomas, Karen Harsh, Kevin Harsh and wife, Sheilah, Brian Harsh and partner, Lawrence Mosier, Richard Bray and wife, Rosanne, Barbara (Bray) Davies and husband, Roy, and Sandy (Bray) Clark and husband, Dave.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross, officiating.
Entombment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
