CUMBERLAND - Helen Louise (Messick) Oster, 88, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at her home.
Born April 28, 1929, in Cumberland, Mrs. Oster was the daughter of the late Charles Anthony Messick and Pleasant Mae (Hardman) Messick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Milton "Porky" Oster; a son, Scott E. Oster; a brother, Howard "Red" Messick; and a sister, Thelma Chambers.
A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Helen started as office manager at McCroy's Department Store and was the longtime bookkeeper and secretary for her husband's excavating company, and then, Oster Brothers Truck Service for her sons.
Helen is survived by her sons, Steve Oster and wife, Diana K., LaVale, and Wayne Oster and Linda Mouse, Cumberland; and her daughter-in-law, Sheila "Chris" (Dixon) Oster, Kennesaw, Ga. She also leaves behind her sister, Betty Lee (Messick) Rice; her grandchildren, Greg Oster and wife, Leah, Todd Oster, Brandon Oster, Abigail "Abby" Oster, and Lauren Mouse; and her great grandchildren, Carson, Samuel, Micah, Amelia, and Azure Oster.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 1 a.m. with Pastor Denny Michael officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank the Western Maryland Hospice Program and her caregivers, Teresa, LuAnn, and Vicky for all their care and help.
