Herbert "Herb" G. Smith, 80, Frostburg, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at his residence.
Born on Aug. 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Jack F. and Eleanor E. (Wilmont) Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, LaDonna F.(Winebrenner) Smith; and sisters, Barb Burke and Jane Greise.
Herb was retired from Frostburg State University where he worked in the maintenance department. He served in the U.S. Army and then the Army Reserves and retired after 26 years. He was a member of the Frostburg and Cresaptown Eagles and the Frostburg and Cumberland Moose. His hobbies included collecting and working on model trains.
Mr. Smith is survived by daughter, Karen Preston and husband Kenneth, Sr.; grandchildren, Valerie Preston, Kenny Preston Jr. and wife Stacy, and Michael Preston and wife Melanie; great grandchildren, Addison, Madison, Savannah, Noah, Logan, Aiden, Bradley and Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Dec.1, 2017, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend George Harpold officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
