Herman Melvin Bobo

LONACONING Herman Melvin Bobo, 94, of Rockville Street, Lonaconing died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born on March 19, 1924, in Rada, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herman Faulkner Bobo and Columbia Elizabeth (Roadcap) Bobo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen Anna (Staup) Bobo; brothers, Dave Bobo, John Bobo, Paul Bobo and Oscar Bobo; sisters, Viola (Bobo) Hanlin, Olive (Bobo) Dishler, Minnie (Bobo) Poling and infant sister, Rhoda Bobo. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Herman was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII where he fought in Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, as a member of the 143rd AAA Gun Battalion.
He retired from Westvaco after working 40 years in the machine room and the transportation department. He also worked in Real Estate for 16 years with BGSG Real Estate Co. and retired from White Dove Real Estate Co. Herman was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lonaconing where he has served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden and Advisory Board Member during the past 35 years. He was also a member of George's Creek Valley Masonic Lodge #161 AF & AM, Westernport American Legion Post 155 and VFW Post 6775, McCoole.
Herman is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Jean Petitt of Charlotte, N.C. and Debra Ann Leilich and husband, Scott of Victor, W.Va.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and 26 nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 10, 2018, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lonaconing with Rev. Garrett Carskadon officiating.
Interment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.
