BAHAMAS James Edward House Sr., 76, of Rawlings, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, while vacationing on a cruise to the Bahamas.
Born on Dec. 11, 1940, at McCoole, he was a son of the late LeRoy S. House Sr. and Ethel Evelyn (Hawk) House. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Fay (Michael) House on April 16, 2013.
Mr. House was a 1958 graduate of Bruce High School and was very active with the Bruce High School Alumni Association and the class of 1958 luncheons and gatherings. He retired in 2003 after over 40 years of service as a millwright foreman with the Westvaco Luke Mill. He served in the United States Army after graduation from high school and was was discharged from the US Army National Guard Unit in Keyser, W.Va., in 1990.
For many years, Mr. House served as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 34, Boy Scouts of America in Keyser. He was a member of Victory Post 155, American Legion, Westernport, the Allegany County Woodturners Association and the Best Price Breakfast Club in McCoole. He also was an avid bowler in many leagues throughout his life and enjoyed traveling. It is ironic that he passed from this earth enjoying one of his favorite pastimes.
Surviving are his children, James E. House Jr. and wife, Michelle and April L. House and husband, William Snoberger, all of Rawlings; a brother, LeRoy S. House Jr. and wife, Vickie of Keyser; a sister, Alice Duckworth of Manassas, Va.; three grandchildren, Amy Leah House-Lindeman and husband, Christopher of Piedmont, W.Va., Jeffrey Tyler House of Mount Savage, and James Timothy House of Rawlings; three stepgrandchildren, Uriah David Snoberger and wife, Michelle of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Aaron Michael Snoberger and wife, Jessica of Morgantown, W.Va., and Hayley Raschel Snoberger of Keyser; four great-grandchildren, Chase Alexander House, Preston Michael House, Isabella Sky Lindeman and Lillian Rose Lindeman and a special friend, Barbara Snyder of Youngstown, Ohio.
Services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon. Military honors will be accorded by the WV Army National Guard Honor Guard, Kingwood, W.Va.
Private inurnment will be in the Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.
