CUMBERLAND - Jennifer Elaine Sharkey, 43, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1973, in Washington, D.C., Miss Sharkey was the daughter of Kathleen Mary Dudley, Hanover, Pa., and the late Charles Jerome Sharkey.
Jennifer attended the Ray of Hope Incorporated Day Program where she was a resident since July 2013. Jenny, as her Mom called her, was surrounded by love until her last moments. She had a heart of gold and was one of the most giving ladies to be known. Jen's final wishes included giving life to others so Jen graciously donated her organs. A flag was flown in front of the WMHS in Honor of Jennifer Sharkey. She lived life to the fullest and now many others, including the five recipients of her major organs, will continue to live through her. Jen enjoyed traveling with her roommate and would never turn down an opportunity to try something new. Every day was an adventure for her. She had a love of animals, storytelling, collecting treasures, and spending time with her friends, mother, brother and loving staff at Ray of Hope. Jen had a laugh and smile that would light up a room and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was known as quite the prankster. Jen enjoyed music and could be found on the dance floor doing her "exceptional moves" when given the opportunity. She was colorful and imaginative. She will be remembered and forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Jen always spoke of her "special place," her loved ones hope she has finally arrived there.
Surviving Jennifer, besides her mother are her brother, Matthew Patrick Sharkey, Pittsburgh, Pa.; her half-sister, Charla Gildersleeves, of Florida; her aunts and uncles, Charles Thomas Dudley Jr., Dennis Michael Dudley and wife, Ruth, Marie Elizabeth Hensley and husband, Charles, and Theresa Margaret Hall; her great aunts, Theresa Batch and Veronica Frostbutter; as well as numerous cousins. She is also survived by her extended family, the staff and her friends at Ray of Hope, Kerri Pryor, Wynona Younger, Hayly Sainz, Jenn Dziuk, Ray Haines, Paul Catau, Susie Stotler, and her roommate and special friend, Maggie Martin.
