Jerry W. Hammond Jerry W. Hammond, 79 of Cumberland passed away Dec. 4, 2018 at Frostburg Village Assisted Living.
Born April 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Leo and Virginia (Simpson) Hammond. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy and Leo (Chico) Hammond; sister Jacqueline Hammond; and daughter, Tia Beth Hammond.
Jerry was a graduate of Fort Hill High School class of 1957. He joined the Marine Reserves and after that he joined the Army for four years. Jerry retired from Jessup House of Corrections where he was a correctional officer.
Our Dad had a great love for hunting and fishing but his real passion was football, especially his Fort Hill Sentinels.
Jerry had many friends whom he cherished and respected. He never met a stranger. Jerry is survived by his children, Kelly and husband Richard, Cresaptown, Greg Hammond, Glen Burnie, Teri Hayward, Pasadena, Tracey and husband Brian Papinaeu, LaGrande, Ore., and Bobby and husband Jeremy Smith, Salisbury; grandchildren, Autumn and husband Gene, Inwood, W.Va., Robyn Broadwater, Hedgesville, W.Va., Kayla Wilkins, Salisbury, Brandon Hayward, Pasadena, Dreydon Hammond, LaGrande, Ore., and Benjamin and Cody Smith, Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Burkholder, Inwood, WVa., Landon Kile, Hedgesville, W.Va.
Special thanks to all of staff at Frostburg Village Nursing Home and Assisted Living for all of the good care and kindness they showed our dad. Jerry thought the world of all of them. They were our special angels.
At his request, Jerry donated his body to science.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I never had the great privilege to meet you, Sir. That was my great loss. But it IS my privilege to know and love your daughter, Kelly. She's an amazing woman. I'm sure she's a great deal like her father. May God bless you.
