Jessie M. Crites, 90, of Cumberland, formerly of Carpendale, W.VA., passed from her earthly bonds and reunited with her husband, Dewane, after 20 years on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 7, 1927, in Dorcas, W.VA., Mrs. Crites was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Riggleman and Dora Bryan (Kite) Riggleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewane C. Crites, 1997; two brothers, Hetzel and Gordon Riggleman; and twin granddaughters, Kara and Kendra Hamilton.
A graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1946, Jessie was a homemaker and a former employee of Ebert's Five and Dime. A seamstress by trade, Jessie also loved to crochet and was a caregiver to all in her neighborhood. She was also an amazing baker. Jessie was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church where she was very active and also a member of the Men and Women's Bible Class. During her stay in the nursing home, Jessie kept active and enjoyed playing Bingo. Jessie was a great mom and loving grandmother to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her life. Jessie was an inspiration to all.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Vicki L. Hamilton and husband, Ken; and her son, Randy S. Crites and wife, Barbara, all of Ridgeley, W.VA. She also leaves behind her sisters, Arlena Kimble, Petersburg, W.Va., and Genevieve Riggleman, Cumberland; and her brother, Marcelle Riggleman, Stephens City, Va. Jessie is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany Huffman and husband, Chad, Hyndman, Pa., Scotty Crites and wife, Tanya, Cumberland, Brent Hamilton, Patrick Crites, and Koty Crites, all of Ridgeley, W.Va.; her great grandchildren, Kira, Lillian, Jayden, and Abel Crites, and Kenlynn Huffman; and her step great grandchildren, Graci and Dayton Geiger.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, Md., (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec.14, 2017, at 10 a.m., with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating.
A committal service and interment will follow at Sites Cemetery, Dorcas, W.Va., with Pastor Ken Hamilton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jessie's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Maryland, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center for all the care and compassion given to Jessie.
