Jessie Belle Crawford Sipes, 97, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the Lions Center.
Born in Pennsylvania on July 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Flora M. (Welsh) McFarland Sr. In addition to her parents, Jessie was also preceded in death by her husbands, Harold E. Crawford and Roland "Red" Sipes; her sister, Georgie Appel; and brother, John B. McFarland Jr.
Jessie was a graduate of the Licensed Practical Nursing School at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a member of Central Assembly of God Church. Church was her life. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was active in the Women's Program at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia R. Skidmore and husband, James, Potomac Park, Cumberland; son, Stephen A. Crawford and wife, Shirley, Sugarland, Texas; grandchildren, Diane Edwards and husband, Randy, LaVale, Kathy Nelson, Indianapolis, Ind., Linda Nestor and husband, Kenneth, LaVale, and Kristi Hughes and husband, Tony, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jessica Bittinger and husband, Travis, Steven Killian, James Killian, Jay Nestor, Erick Nestor, Kody Hughes, Ariana Hughes, and Korbin Hughes; great-great-grandchildren, Jaidian, Riley, and Austin.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, April 24, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Central Assembly of God Church, 2020 Bedford Road, Cumberland, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Seaman officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
