John Thomas Allen Sr., 72, of Eckhart, died unexpectedly Sunday, May13, 2018, at his residence.
Born in Frostburg, he was the son of the late George B. Allen Sr. and Hope (Hoffman) Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother, George B. Allen Jr.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Gracie) Allen; children, Krista Livengood and husband, Ed, Cathy Albright and husband, Dan, and John T. Allen Jr. and wife, Carrie; beloved grandchildren whom he adored, Trace Livengood, Sierra Livengood, Rachel Albright, Dalton Allen, and Isabel Allen; sister, Patricia (Allen) Kaplon and husband, Don; and sisters-in-law, Genevieve (Gracie) Miller and Eileen (Gracie) Topping; and several nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Beall High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1965-1971. He retired in 2005 from Atlantic Broadband where he had worked for 40 years. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the many years he spent working with Boy Scouts of America. John cherished the times he spent as a drummer in various bands, including the Aliminators, Carl Baer and the Sounds of Country, Driftwood, and Four On the Floor. He most recently played in the Marsh Mountain Men, alongside his grandson, Trace, his lifelong friend Rob Harper, and his "grandson" Garrett Yoder.
John was a member of Frostburg American Legion Post 24 where he served on the Honor Guard. He was a lifetime member of Barrelville Outdoor Club.
Friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 E. Main Street, Frostburg, on Thursday, May 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks serving as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors being accorded by Farrady Post 24, Frostburg American Legion Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be John T. Allen Jr., Ed Livengood, Dan Albright, Trace Livengood, Justin Wilson, and Larry Clowser.
