John Charles Ashby, 75, of Burlington, W.Va., died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born on Dec. 4, 1941, in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Turner Francis and Alice Elizabeth (Hurd) Ashby. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Turner Ashby and Patrick R. Ashby.
Mr. Ashby gradauted from St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel. He retired after 30 years of service as a letter carrier with the USPS and served in the United States Army in the 1960's. Catholic by faith, he was a member and a former manager of the Mill Creek Country and Golf Club, Burlington.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 51 years, Linda F. (Coon) Ashby; two sons, Timothy Brian Ashby and wife, Donna, of Eldersburg and Kevin David Ashby and wife, Jennifer Eddins, of Mount Airy; three brothers, Thomas Ashby and wife, Sylvia, of Charles Town, James Ashby of Oakland, and David Ashby and wife, Terri, of Laurel; three sisters, Patricia Lepore of Laurel, Ann Teehan of California and Mary Ellen Cole and husband, Jim, of Savage; and four grandchildren, Johnathan, Jacob and Kent Ashby and Caleb Eddins.
At Mr. Ashby's request, there will be no services at this time.
