John A. "Buck" Ensminger, Jr., 72, of Corriganville, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born June 3, 1945 in Mercersburg, Pa, he was the son of the late John A. "Whitey" Ensminger, Sr. and Margaret "Maggie" (Hann) Ensminger.
Buck graduated from Mt. Savage High School in 1964.
Soon after graduation, on July 11, 1964 he married his wife of 53 years, Sandra K. (Heaster) Ensminger at the Mt. Savage United Methodist Church.
During his life, Mr. Ensminger had been employed by Merchants Security Policy in Michigan and he was a welder/operator for Norfolk and Western Railroad for 14 years. In 2011, he retired as the Superintendent from Restlawn Memorial Gardens with 32 years of service.
Buck loved racing, especially NASCAR. He was a big fan of Gary Stuhler. He enjoyed watching and supporting all of the Pittsburgh teams, which include the Pirates, the Steelers and the Penguins. He also enjoyed playing the slot machines and walking by the water. He adored the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Ensminger was a life member of the Corriganville Volunteer Fire Department, the Kennelsmille Sportsman Club, and the Barrelville Outdoor Club.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children, Karen M. Ensminger, Leonardtown, John "Slick" A. Ensminger, III, and wife Sandy, Ellerslie, and Jason M. Garlock, and wife Holly, Corriganville; grandchildren, Amber Taylor, and husband Jimmy, Stacey Cook, and husband Steve, Jason M. Garlock, Jr., Jacob A. Garlock, Olivia R. Garlock, and Isabella R. Garlock; and great-grandson, Fenway Taylor. He is also survived by his siblings, Victor "Butch" Ensminger, Michigan, Leonard Ensminger, Texas, Virginia "Peep" Hockenberry, Cumberland, Margaret "Squirt" Crawford, Corriganville, and Betty Jane Barthalow, Chaneyville, Pa. He also leaves behind his cat, "Lucky."
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 12- 2 p.m.
The funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Ken L. Korns officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
