John "Jack"'s Story
John T. "Jack" Moffitt, Sr., 91, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 30, 1926, in Greene County, Pa., the son of the late Kenneth and Laura Edith (Wade) Moffitt. He was raised in Essex and was a veteran of World War II, serving honorably in the U.S. Air Force. Jack worked as an electronics technician for the Federal Government for 30 years at Edgewood Arsenal. Jack was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church of Essex and Christ Lutheran Church of LaVale for many years, serving in various capacities.
Jack and his wife of 71 years, Virginia "Ginny" A. (Mohr), retired to a family property near Frostburg in 1989 where he enjoyed walking with his family and watching the wildlife. In 2015 he and Ginny moved to Williamsport to be near family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Ginny; children, Kathleen J. (Ronald) Brundick of Jersey Shore, Pa., Elizabeth A. (Vaughn) Paragamian of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, John T. Moffitt Jr. of Frostburg, and Debra J. Moffitt of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Lisa (Matthew) Cramer, Laura (Tim) Sanborn, Jon (Rebekah) Paragamian, and Karin (Matthew) Settles; and eight great-grandchildren.
A tribute to Jack's life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at noon. The Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker will officiate. Burial will be private.
