ACCIDENT My Sweetheart, John Robert Kahl, 72, of Accident, left me the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. God welcomed him to be with his dad, Roy Kahl and mom, Mae Florence (Brobst) Kahl.
John was born July 29, 1945, in Cumberland. John leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Mary Elizabeth (Baker) Kahl and children, John David Kahl, wife, Nancy, Bernard Bruce Kahl, wife, Jennifer, and Laura Catherine Richards, husband, Leland; grandchildren, John Henry McCoy, Lindsey Alexandra Kahl, and David James Kahl. Also, surviving John are his brother, George E. Kahl, wife, Donna; his sisters, Juanita Thomas, Esther Trautwein, husband, Buck, and Louise Plowman, husband, Fred. "Special pure breds" Chaplain Capt. George and Jenny Kahl, "Trouble" and Ed Kovach and families, John Andrew Baker, wife, Michelle and many other nieces and nephews. He will leave his special hunting buddy, Tim Kennell, who will hunt the rest of the deer and turkey and Bob Noel, who will take care of the bees.
John said so many times he didn't know he had so many friends here, at work, "Dump," McHenry UMC, Davis UMC, the Legion, Kelly Springfield Tire Company, The Accident Garage Gang, and the Masons! He loved all of you.
Mr. Kahl was a retail manager for Kelly-Springfield Tire Store, LaVale, and was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a member of McHenry United Methodist Church, Commander of Accident Post 208, American Legion, Past Master of Queen City Lodge 131, A.F. & A.M., Cumberland, Cumberland Consistory Scottish Rite, Ali Ghan Shrine Motor Corps and the Beekeepers Association.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. by Queen City Lodge 131, A.F. & A.M,.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan Moon officiating.
Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Kahl, Bernard Kahl, Leland Richards, John Baker, George Kahl Jr., Ed Kovach, John McCoy, and David Kahl. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children or Accident Post 208, American Legion.
