John Calvin Keller, 73, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1944, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James P. Keller and Maryland (Mower) McCreary. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Sheila Winter and Karen Helmstetter.
John was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1962.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
John was a retired fireman with the City of Cumberland, having served for 32 years.
He was a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church, Queen City Lodge 131, A.F. & A.M., 32nd. Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, and Ali Ghan Shrine, where he belonged to the Legion of Honor. John was a charter and life member of Gold Star Post 6452 and served as the first Post Historian. He was also a life member of Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion, life member of the Navy Seabees Veterans, and life member of the Good Fellowship Club.
Among the survivors are friends, Alex and Eleanor Gross, Gary and Susie Miller, Gina and Bob Ward, and Bill Valentine.
Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Queen City Lodge 131, A.F. & A.M., will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Christopher Gobrecht officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Gross, Bob Krogel, Rick Twigg, Tom Ward, Donald Middleton, and Gary Miller.
