John D. Kimble, 83, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1934, in Flintstone, Mr. Kimble was the son of the late Jesse Kimble and Rissie (Ketterman) Kimble. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Glenn, Norman, Ray, Leonard, and Daniel Kimble; and two sisters, Pauline Rudolph and Mary Stickley.
John retired in Aug. 1996 from Southern States Coop as Manager with 44 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene having served on the Church Board, President of his Sunday School Class and was head usher and greeter. John was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Valley Optimist Club where he served as Chairman of the Annual Easter Sale and Fundraiser and the Annual Oratorical Contest. He loved hunting through Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Colorado with his amazing hunting buddies that always took care of him. In his retirement, John had a lawn care business and mowed for many people. He also had a newspaper route for several years. He enjoyed gardening and loved sharing his produce with friends and neighbors.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Elaine (Martz) Kimble; and his children, Sandy Kimble, Berlin, Mark Kimble, Washington, DC, Lori Kimble-Beal, and husband Brian, Carpendale, W.Va., and Mandy Ford, and husband Tim, Sykesville. He also leaves behind his brother, Paul Kimble and wife, Ines, Clearville, Pa.; and his sisters, Martha Martin, of Oregon, and Elizabeth Martin, and husband Samuel, Hagerstown. John is also survived by his grandchildren, Dana, Deanna, and Damon Kimble, Derek, Tyler, and Karly Humberson, and Casey, Jacob, Caleb, and Matthew Ford; and his great- grandchildren, Sasha and Alex Kimble, Kinsley and Drake Humberson.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, Md., (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at 11a.m., with Pastor Gary Barkley officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
