PIPERSVILLE, Pa. John P. Knieriem III, 75, of Pipersville, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at home surrounded by family after a tenacious battle with cancer.

He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Martha (Ulans) Knieriem; daughter, Kris and husband Steve; and son, John and wife, Lynn. He is also survived by the grandchildren he adored, Zoe Zissu, Alexis Hanford, Max Zissu, Haley Hanford and Kylie Knieriem; his siblings, Guy Knieriem and Jane Bass; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and outlaws. John was predeceased by his parents, John Knieriem II and Helen Knieriem, and brothers, Kenan and Hugh Knieriem.

Born in Cumberland, John grew up an Army brat, living in various places around the country and world. He graduated from Monmouth University, N.J., and embarked on a successful career with Alcoa, which took him to Newark, N.J., Boston, Mass., Pittsburgh, Pa., Chicago, Ill., Minneapolis, Minn., Massena, N.Y., and Little Rock, Ark. John and his wife, Marti, retired to Pipersville, Pa., in 1996.

John will be forever remembered for his quick wit, generous humor and ability to bring a smile to anyone's face. John loved nothing more than a well-told joke, one of his famous Bloody Marys, and laughing with family and friends. Though the world has lost a bit of sunshine with his passing, heaven has gained a beautiful soul with a devilish sparkle in his blue eyes.

John's funeral service, celebrating his life, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at the Shelly Funeral Home, Easton and Keller's Church roads, Plumsteadville, where the family will receive friends after 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Doylestown Hospital, c/o Development Office, 595 W. State St., Doylestown, Pa. 18901.
