Joseph Vincent Howser

November 04, 1992 - October 07, 2018

Joseph Vincent Howser, 25, of Baltimore, went to be with the Lord Oct. 7, 2018, at University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma in Baltimore, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Cumberland on Nov. 4, 1992. Joe excelled to his highest potential at anything he set his mind to. Joe was an incredible athlete, brother, co-worker, family member, friend, and student.
From an early age he loved playing sports including baseball, basketball, football and soccer. Joe quickly earned the nickname "Lightning Joe" for his blazing speed. Joe concluded his athletic career by playing football at Fort Hill High School where he displayed his tremendous leadership abilities at the quarterback position and incredible strength and toughness at the defensive end position.
It would come as no surprise that Joe applied the same hard work and discipline on the field in the classroom. The result was nothing short of extraordinary. Joe was a member of National Honor Society and accepted nothing less than an A and graduated from Fort Hill High School in 2011 with 4.0 GPA. He continued his hard work and success at Frostburg State University where he received a B.S. in Accounting and finished in top of his class in 2015. Joe's speech to his graduating class was Oscar worthy! He earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credentials in 2016, passing all four parts without one failure. He had a promising start to his career and was considered one of the best financial analysts at Capital Funding Group in Baltimore at the time of his death.

Joe loved fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, biking along the C & O canal, the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, fulfilling his duties as the CFO of The Chocolate Milkshake Club (a club that consisted of cousins who tasted and reviewed chocolate milkshakes nationwide), and most of all, spending quality time with his beloved family. Joe was generous, kind and loving to every individual that he met.
Adored son of Thomas Howser and Donna (Timko) Howser; and brother and best friend to Eric Howser; and fiancé, Janelle Jones; Beloved grandson of Mary Howser and Catherine Timko; preceded in death by his grandfathers, Edward Howser and Arnold Timko. Loving nephew of Edward and Lisa Howser, Mary Harrison, Michael and Trish Howser, Linda and Randy Sherman, Bridget and Tom Alfano, Michael and Paula Timko, Susan Josselyn, Nancy and Bill Courpas, and Brenda and Brian Wingate. He will be missed tremendously by all his family members including his many cousins; Chelsey, Chip, Amanda, Lauren, Logan, Gregory, Dustin, Kimberly, Andrew, Christine, Christopher, Nicholas, Michael, Matthew, Bradley, Brittany, Alex, Connor, Camryn, and Dylan.
Family and friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW Cresaptown, MD 21502, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 14923 Winchester Rd SW, Cumberland, MD 21502, Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow mass at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 11128 Cash Valley RD, Lavale, MD 21502.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Joe Howser to the Fort Hill High School Scholarship Fund, 500 Greenway Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502 on behalf of Joe Howser.
Special thanks to the staff at University of Maryland Medical Center's Lung Rescue Unit (LRU) R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma for their kindness and compassion during our difficult time.
A special note: When reading about Joe you may find yourself asking many questions. One in particular, "What happened to the guy who seemed to have everything going for him?" What we can tell you is that depression, anxiety and all other mental illnesses are demonic diseases that affect the minds of many. If you have someone you love who is struggling or think is struggling, help them get help they need. No one on this entire planet should feel ashamed for asking for the help!

To the Howser Family,

We had the pleasure of meeting Joe through our very close friends, the Johnson's in Arnold. He was quite a gentleman and fun to be around. We wish you all peace.

So much love and heartfelt prayers to family and friends.
For those who are struggling with these demonic diseases,
there is one who will deliver and rescue from the lions den.
(Daniel 6/27) His name is Jesus! Come unto me, all ye that
labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest for your
souls. Matt: 11 28/29

I'm a stranger who wanted to extend condolences to the family. It's so sad to see someone lose their life at a young age. I wanted to share a comforting scripture from the bible taken from 1 Peter 5:7, it says" while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you." God cares about us and he will carry our burdens for us if we let him. Find comfort in knowing that God sees our suffering and cares about it.

This was such sad news to hear. I had both Joe and Eric at Fort Hill. Both were excellent students and people. My heart goes out to Eric and his parents.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

There are no words, no sentiments that can help you through the agony you are withstanding. It is at this time that God holds you closest and is giving you the grace to go on.
Please know that our hearts are with you.

Dear Tom and Donna,
Words cannot express the sincere shock and sorrow we are feeling for the loss of your precious son. Remembering the fond memories of the many ballgames and events our boys shared together. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I am very sorry we cannot attend the viewing as we are in VA, but we are holding you close to our hearts.

Dear Tom, Donna, and Eric,

I was scrolling through the Cumberland Times today on line and saw the obituary for Joe. Having flashbacks of Eric, Joe and Nelson playing baseballl for several years together. I called Nelson this evening to let him know of Joe's passing.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I feel fortunate that my boys had such a wonderful person as a cousin. He was always kind, overly generous with his time, and quick with a smile.

He set an example that the boys have aspired to follow as an honor and not as an obligation.

I cherish my memories of Joe.

With my thoughts and prayers,

It seems so recent when Joe and Eric played basketball with Tom and myself in Orlando.
Even then Joe demonstrated amazing athleticism.Billy Joel may have sung "The good die young" but those who remain behind can never understand why.
