CROSS, W.Va. Junior William Baker, 82, of Cross, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, while under the care of WV Caring Hospice.
Born on June 26, 1935, at Cross, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Anna V. (Dawson) Baker. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Walter and three sisters, Leona, Bernadine and Erma.
Mr. Baker was retired as a mechanic with the WV Department of Highways with 21 years of service. He also was formerly employed at the former Ervin's Gulf Station on West Piedmont Street in Keyser for 20 years. He was a member of the Cross Assembly of God Church, Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., Keyser where he served as Tiler for many years and Alkire Chapter 10, Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser. He also was a member of the Damascus Commandery 23, Knights Templar, Keyser Chapter 19, Royal Arch Masons, Scottish Rite Bodies of Wheeling, and the Upper Potomac Shrine Club, Keyser.
Junior enjoyed doing yard work and gardening, especially with his grape arbor and loved "tinkering" in his garage.
Surviving are two brothers, Andrew Baker and wife, Thelma of Keyser and Lawrence Baker and wife, Linda of Elk Garden; two sisters, Ella Mae Cook of Keyser and Wilma Lee Baker, with whom he resided for over 20 years. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and a family friend, Teresa Duckworth and her son, Shawn Miller.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. Alkire Chapter 10, O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at noon with Chaplain Gary Cannon officiating. Friends may also call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Sinclair Memorial Park, Cross. Graveside Masonic rites will be accorded by Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M.
