Kenneth Leonard Perdew Sr., 82, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
Kenny was born in Cumberland on Jan. 28, 1935, in the house which he currently lived. He was the son of the late Charles Howard Perdew and Dora Helene (Crabtree) Perdew. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter L. and Charles Leroy "Socks" Perdew; two sisters, Thelma Leota McClellan and Dora Louella Martin; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A 1953 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Kenny was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Army Security Agency as a cryptoanalyst technician. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. Kenny worked at the Western Maryland Railroad, the Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company and retired as maintenance supervisor from the Allegany County Nursing Home. He was very active with the Fort Hill Band Parents for more than 45 years. He was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Weaver) Perdew; a son, Kenny L. Perdew Jr. and wife, Karen, Hilliard, Ohio; a daughter, Kimberly J. Wharton, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Lara Block and husband, Sean; Shane Perdew and wife, Caitlin; Brian Perdew, and Zachary Wharton; his great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adriana, Alexander, and Abigail Block, and Adaleigh and Rowan Perdew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St. (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com), on Wednesday, Jan.ary 10, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Services will begin after visitation at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
