LaVerne Irene (Martens) Yutzy, 96, of Pocahontas passed away on Wednesday, Jan.17, 2018, at the Patriot Home in Somerset.
Born in Mount Savage, Md. on May 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter Martens and Emma (Tressler) Martens. LaVerne is preceded in death by her husband Clyde Yutzy. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
LaVerne had worked at G.C. Murphy Co. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Choir and the Golden Guild. She was a member of the Calanthe Temple # 3 Pythian Sisters and a former member of Greenville Homemakers.
She is survived by sons, Raymond Yutzy and partner, Doug Pirkle of Pittsburgh; Roy Yutzy and special friend Margaret Hartman of Pocahontas, Pa.; Dale Yutzy and wife Gale of Wittenberg, Pa.; daughter Joyce Wright and husband Bruce of Somerset, Pa.; grandchildren, Christopher Yutzy and wife Kristy, Holly Wright and wife Wendy; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Jones and husband Matt, and Matthew Carney; five great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter.
Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Jim Jeffries officiating.
Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery.
