Linda's Story

FROSTBURG Linda Lee Petrea, 72, of Frostburg, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born May 2, 1945, in Cumberland, Mrs. Petrea was the daughter of the late Wallace Matthew Petrea and Audra Lillian (Powell) Petrea.
A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1963, Linda also graduated from Allegany College of Maryland and retired in 2009 from Frostburg State University as Campus Security then continued as a dispatcher. She was also an employee of Lindy's restaurant for a number of years. Linda was one of the first females allowed entry into the Maryland State Police Academy. She was the first woman to serve as Allegany County District Court Commissioner. Linda taught numerous self-defense classes in the area. She loved her cats, enjoyed anything involving yarn, knitting, macramé, etc.
Linda is survived by her children, W. Scott Summers and wife, Tracy, Oldtown, John W. Morley III, and wife, Gigi of North Dakota, and Robyn Michelle, Frostburg. She also leaves behind her brother, Barry L. Petrea, Alliance, Ohio; her granddaughter, Brittney Summers, Oldtown; her special friends, Denny and Ethel Durst, Frostburg, and Courtney Ritchie, Cresaptown; and her two feline friends, Bella and Larry.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,(www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, June 23, 2017, at 1 p.m. with her son, Pastor W. Scott Summers, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Linda's name to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, Post Office Box 566, Cumberland, MD 21501.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Frostburg Village for all the care and concern given to Linda as well as Denny and Ethel, for their time and being so good to her.
