CUMBERLAND - Lou Wella (Metheny) Thompson, 91, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Born on April 6, 1928, in Kingwood, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Bessie (Taylor) and Okey Metheny. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thompson; brother, David Metheny; and sister, Pauline Matthews and husband, Oliver.
She attended elementary school in Terra Alta, W.Va., prior to moving to Cumberland, where she attended Fort Hill High School. Returning to Terra Alta, she graduated from Terra Alta High School. Mrs. Thompson also attended Tri-State Beauty Academy, Cumberland. She married Jack Thompson on Oct. 18, 1947. Mrs. Thompson was employed at Town and Country Department Store for twelve years prior to retirement.
She was a member of Emanuel Bethel United Methodist Church of Cumberland. She attended Memorial Heights Baptist Church, Cumberland. Mrs. Thompson will be greatly missed by many family members and close friends. She will be missed by beloved daughter, Lindy. She made the lives of others richer through her love and friendship. She was a loving, care, and compassionate person.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband, Robert Bealky Jr., Chandler, Ariz.; sister, Norma Jane Moore, Mooresville, Ind.; niece, Susan Thomas, Freedom, Pa.; and nephews, Okey Matthews and wife, Sherry, John Matthews and wife, Rose, all of Freedom, William Moore, Kenneth Moore, and David Moore, all of Mooresville.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday, June 10, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. with Reverend Denny Michael officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mom's angels, JoAnn Shipley and Kim Hazel, who were with her from the beginning and showed her much love and support. Thank you to Danny and Faye Olinger, who were always there for Mom and Dad, taking them to doctors' appointments and checking in on them. Also, thank you to Beverly Twigg - always dependable - who took Mom her meals.
