Louis's Story

PAW PAW, W.Va. Louis E. Herrell, 79 of Paw Paw, passed away Jan. 8, 2018 at the Cumberland Healthcare Services.
He was preceeded in death by his father Charles G. Herrell and his mother, Elma E. Herrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley (Flora) Herrell. Louis also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Ellen Moreland of Short Gap; nephews, Roger Moreland and wife Cathy, Randy Moreland and wife Bonnie; nieces, Rhonda Via and husband Steve, Renee Davis and friend Tim Dishong; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Louis was a graduate of PawPaw High School, Cathermans Business School, and completed several courses at Allegany Community College. He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company with over 30 years of service and currently served on the Board of Directors of TWR Communications in Cumberland, Md.
Louis was a unique individual who felt to be successful, you must work hard and make your community a better place. He and his wife Shirley owned Mountaineer Mini Storage until 2016. He was a member of PawPaw Church of Christ, served several terms on the Paw Paw Town Council and other town appointments, life member and secretary for f43 years for the PPVFD and was an EMT and paramedic. He was a founding member of the State EMS System and still served as director of NEREMS Inc. He served on the Morgan County Fire Board, Emergency Services of Morgan County, the Deputy Sheriffs Civil Service Commission, and the Eastern Panhandle Regional Planning and Development Council Region 9. He was a 32nd degree Scottish and York Rite Mason and pastmaster in Deford Lodge AF&AM#88.
Being an avid hunter, he was a benefactor member of the National Rifle Association, W.Va. State Rifle and Pistol Association, national Wild Turkey Federation, Isaac Walton League, Nature Conservancy, WV Wildlife Assoication, Secretary of the PawPaw Rifle and Pistol Club, hunter safety instructor, and director of Bears Heil and Grace Property in Hardy County, W.Va.
Mr. Herrell donated his body to the Human Gift Registry of WVU.
A memorial Service will be held at the Paw Paw Church of Christ on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at 2 p.m.
Louis's wife would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the workers of Cumberland Healthcare Services and the caregivers of Comfort Keepers for the care of Louis in his time of illness.
