WILEY FORD, W.Va. Marvel K. Morlen passed away into the arms of angels on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Reid and husband, Larry.
Born March 15, 1924, to the late Edward J. and Cecelia J. (Smith) Pennington, of Ruddle, she had a gift of hospitality and was avid in quilting, crochet, embroidery, gardening, and canning. She also had a love of flowers. Marvel was the last charter member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren and was an active member of CBYF, the Woman's Fellowship, and her quilting circle.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Oras W. Morlen; brothers, Robert Pennington; and sisters, Nevada Starnes and Vernie White.
She is survived by sons, Danny L. Morlen I and Sue, Wiley Ford, Jimmy W. Morlen, Wiley Ford; daughters, Bonnie Reid and Larry, Patterson Creek, and Janie VanSkiver and Johny, Fort Ashby; grandchildren, Scott Richard and Lorri, Danny Morlen II and Kim, Kenny Morlen and Melissa, Kathleen Morlen, Batina Germain and Stephan, and Steven Shuck; great-grandchildren, Jordan Richard and Chalet, Ashlyn Richard, Whitney Richard, Jonathan Ruppenthall, Christian Ruppenthall, Ethan Germain, Nicolas Gevadon, Elizabeth Gevadon, Danny Morlen III, Elizabeth Shuck, Kelly Shuck, Ashley Shuck, Emily Reed, and Justin Flick and Joy; great-great-grandchildren, Riley Richard, Gracelinn Metz, Maria Flick, Faith Flick, Brianna Flick, Troy Kline, and Andrea Johnson; and a brother, Bennie Pennington and Martha, Elee, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department will hold a special service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren in Wiley Ford, on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 12 p.m. with Pastor Larry Barnes and the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating. Friends will be received an hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park and will be followed by a meal at the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Williams, Kenny Morlen, Danny Morlen II, Danny Morlen III, Johny VanSkiver, Scott Richard, Jordan Richard, and Justin Flick.
