Mary Catherine's Story

Mary Catherine Wiley, 87, of Grantsville, passed away 25 years to the day since the passing of her loving husband, Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Goodwill Mennonite Home.
Born March 14, 1930, at her home in Midland, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Bertha (McGowan) McMillan. Mrs. Wiley was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Randall Charles Wiley; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edward and Audrey McMillan and Robert and Rosemary McMillan; daughter, Ellen Catherine; granddaughter, Carri Jo Teats; sister-in-law, Jane Wiley; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Wiley.
Mrs. Wiley was a graduate of Beall High School and was employed by Murphy's Department Store until she married and moved to Jennings. After her seven children started school, she returned to work. Mrs. Wiley was employed by the Garrett County Board of Education at Grantsville Elementary School as a teaching assistant for many years until her retirement.
She was an active member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Ann Catholic Church and was a leader of the Grantsville 4-H Club and volunteered her time as superintendent of the canning department at the Garrett County Fair. She also volunteered for the American Heart Association and the Thrift Store in Grantsville and enjoyed her many trips with the Circle of Friends group and the activities at the Grantsville Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Wiley is survived by two sons, Randall R. Wiley and wife, Betty Jo, Grantsville, and Stephen R. Wiley, McHenry; five daughters, Susan J. Frickey and friend, Carroll Bachtel, Colleen M. Hershberger and husband, John, all of Grantsville, Peggy A. Teats and husband, Ronald, Flintstone, Patricia L. Bodes and husband, Gary, Harmony, N.C., Rosemarie Ganoe and husband, Dan, Frostburg; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer Chandewar and husband, Pramod, Wade Wiley and wife, Debbie, Lauren Wiley and finance, Gary Margelowsky, Chelsea Brenneman and husband, Todd, Tricia Wiley and finance, Ben Rizer, Tina Jones and husband, Scott, Brian Teats and wife, Denise, Marybeth Hershberger, Heather Dufore and husband, Matt, Jared Bodes and finance, Jodi Stracham, Natalie Ganoe, Daniel Ganoe and wife, Megan, Andrew Ganoe and wife, Amber, Melissa Meyers and husband, Justin, Maria Ganoe and Randall Ganoe; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Ann Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Hendricks officiating.
Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.
This precious lady will forever be held in the hearts of so many for her generosity, kindness, compassion, strength and unconditional love. She will always be remembered for her ability to fill a tabletop with homemade delights and always had room for one more. Her home was always open and she had a way of making everyone feel special.
The family would like to thank the staff of Memory Lane at the Goodwill Mennonite Home for their loving care of our mother over the past five years.
Mary Catherine will be greatly missed by her family and friends who were blessed to know this angel.
