Mary May Griffin, 70, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Born on Oct. 8, 1947 in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Staten Brumage and Evelyn Catherine Brumage.
Mary was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Parish. She was retired from Frostburg State University where she was an Administrative Assistant to the President, and was employed 39 years. Mary was an avid reader, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, Celebrity Cipher, and Sudoku. She loved doing her morning three mile walks with her husband. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Mary ensured the family was always taken care of, and kept Carrie and Caitlin in line. In accordance with her wishes, she was able to be an organ donor.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, George J. Griffin of Cumberland; daughter, Carrie Garey and husband Kevin of Frostburg; granddaughter, Caitlin Woodson of Frostburg; and siblings, Virginia Brumage of Lonaconing, Catherine "Kitty" Burkett and husband Fred of Newberry Fla., Nancy Burkett and husband Gary of Cumberland, and Ernest Brumage and wife Marsha of Elkton; special aunt, Tina Duckworth of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, Feb.25, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E Oldtown Road, Cumberland, on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Bishop Walsh School, 700 Bishop Walsh Rd, Cumberland, MD 21502.
