Mary Kathryn "Kitty" (McCoy) Woods, 83, of Paw Paw, W.Va., died on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at her home.
Kitty was born on Aug. 20, 1933, in Philippi; her grandparents, Tom and Marie Robinson raised her in Petroleum. She was the daughter of Margaret Robinson McCoy Moore and John Joseph McCoy.
Mary was ambitious, artistic, funny and compassionate. She advocated for senior citizen rights in Florida, forming an organization called M.O.P., P.O.P. She worked closely with Governor Jeb Bush in getting "Law 622" passed protecting mobile home park renter's rights. She worked for Memorial Hospital in Cumberland and Crown Cork & Seal in Winchester, Va., where she was a union rep. She designed and sewed her children's Halloween costumes on a treadle sewing machine.
She leaves a son, Don Woods; and two daughters, DeLaine Parrill and Sherri Ginevan; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Claire Jo Turkenburg, Dottie Mandagelo, Darlene Burr, Susie Siveroli and Vickie Nechimoto; two brothers are deceased, Jack and Bill McCoy. She has many nieces and nephews. Kitty was a descendant of John Robinson Jr., "Pastor of the Pilgrim Fathers."
Private arrangements are by the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge.
