Mary Elizabeth Hott Delawder Smith, 89, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Cumberland, on Feb. 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Pearl (Amick) and Charles Athey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil E. Hott and Richard M. Delawder; sister, Fannie Hiett; brother, who was killed during the Korean War, Bob Athey; son, Nicholas E. Hott; daughter, Anita Bishop; daughter-in-law, Caron (Sirbaugh) Hott; and son-in-law, Ernie Piper.
Mary attended Oldtown School. She was a housewife and mother who had been employed by White House Apple processing plant and Consolidated Orchards. Mary was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oldtown.
She is survived by her husband, Gary O. Smith Sr.; children, Linda Piper and fiancé, Jeff Price, Cumberland, Thomas Hott, Cumberland, and Andy McKenzie and wife, Tracy, Spring Gap; son-in-law, Roger Bishop, Cumberland; grandchildren, Nicky Hott and Kara, Nicole Hott, Stevie Hott, Stephanie Piper and husband, Bob, Eric Piper, Jessica Reeves and husband, Art, Tamra Dicken and husband, Lenny, Amanda Hott, Shannon Stott and husband, Wade, Carmen Bishop, Leandra Portmess and husband, John, Travis Bishop, Gerard McKenzie, Ryan McKenzie, and Allison McKenzie; brothers, Richard Athey and wife, Michelle, Oldtown, and Roger Athey, Paw Paw; sisters, Marie Belford and husband, Don, and Nellie VanMeter and husband Marvin, Oldtown. Mary is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mary's memory may make contributions to the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oldtown.
