Maxine's Story

BEDFORD, Pa. - Maxine Loretta Higson Seward, 103, of Cumberland Valley, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017.
Born on Nov. 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Ida (Evans) and Alonzo Snider. In addition to her parents, Maxine was also preceded in death by husbands, Herbert B. Higson and Elmer G. Seward; her son, Richard Higson; brothers; sisters; step-brothers; and step-sisters.
Maxine was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Avenue High School. She worked as a seamstress for many years at the Cumberland Undergarment Factory, and at the Schwabb Clothing Company. She was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Giovanna "Bonnie" R. Sanders; three sons, Ronald E. Higson and wife, Nora, Theodore H. Higson and wife, Mary Jane, and Larry L. Higson and wife, Jane; two step-sons, Allan Seward, and Edward Seward and wife, Sally; one step-daughter, Christina Brown; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 10 a.m. to Noon.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at noon with Pastor Jim Buchanan officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dottie Michaels and Debra Wolford for their wonderful care provided to Maxine.
