Michael "Mike"'s Story
Michael F. "Mike" McGann, 69, of Mount Savage, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with brain cancer.
Mike was born in Cumberland, on July 14, 1948. He was the son of the late Bernard Francis McGann and Mary Loretta (Beckman) McGann Deter. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia "Patty" McGann Burkholder; and his stepfather, Garland Deter.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Beverly (Bishop) McGann; his daughter, Selena Mawhinney, the best daughter he could ever ask for and her husband, Jason, whom he loved like a son; and his granddaughter, Angel Beth, who was the apple of his eye and who he loved spending time with and spoiling her. Mike is also survived by his sister, Cathy (McGann) Pannone and husband, Mike; his sister-in-law, Peggy Beckwith and husband, Tony; his brothers-in-law, Jimmy "Ponch" Bishop and wife, Kathy, and Jim Burkholder; and the brother he never had but God choose to give him, Kenny Scarlett and wife, Barb. Mike is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends who will also miss him.
Mike was a 1967 graduate of Allegany High School and has maintained lifelong friendships with his classmates. He retired from Charter Communications after thirty plus years of service in the cable industry. Beginning his career as a draftsman at Potomac Valley Television in the early 1970s, Mike maintained friendships with his fellow coworkers to this day. Mike was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always followed NHRA drag races and attended many races to see his Godson "Fast Jack Beckman" compete. Even with his disability, Mike lived life to the fullest and never complained or let it get in his way of doing anything he set his mind to.
