Mildred Ellen Brant, 76, of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 14, 1941, in Cumberland, Ellen was the daughter of the late John Aaron and Mary Agnes (Sowers) Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, James K. Brant Jr., and one brother, Charles Johnson and his wife, Trudy Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James K. Brant Sr., Ridgeley; daughters, Mary Ellen Morris and husband, Mike, Rebecca Anne Viands and husband, Billy, and Elizabeth Erin Dixon and husband, Chris; son, Paul Kirby and wife, Patty; grandchildren, James III, Bobby, Jennifer, Samantha, Gabrielle, Kezia, Josh, Coen, Stephanie, and Katie; great-grandchildren, Evie, Alex, Colton, Brantley, Madison, Cayla, Breanna, Michael, Harlow, Rubii, Abygail, Kendalynn, and Juliana. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Jean Kirby and husband, Ronnie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellen graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1959. She was the Sentinelettes' advisor from 1970 through 1980. She was also a Ridgeley Rangerette advisor in the 1970s. During her children's school years, she was a homeroom mother and PTA president. She worked at the Ridgeley Dairy Queen and Gardener's Candy Store for many years. Ellen served as Ridgeley town recorder and town clerk.
She was a member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Gold Star Post 6452, VFW.
Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Young officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
