Nora's Story

HAGERSTOWN Nora Mae (Bartles) LaRue of Hagerstown, (formerly of Luke) passed away on March 12, 2018, at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility.
Born Oct. 2, 1933, she was the daughter of Charles Cadamus Bartles and Nora Christina Mae Bartles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wallace LaRue in 2012; and her daughter, Belinda Ann Whittington. Also, three brothers, Charles, David and Paul all of Hagerstown. Five sisters, Virginia Bingaman and Martha Miller from Waynesboro, Pa., Christina Blair of Chambersburg, Pa., and Pauline Timbrook and Helen Bartles of Hagerstown.
Mrs. LaRue attended Hagerstown High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion in Hagerstown. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont, W.Va., and attended First Baptist Church of Hagerstown, when she relocated from Luke to Hagerstown in 2016. Illness limited her travel in the recent months. health permitting, she attended Bible Study groups and church services at the Brookdale Facility.
She is survived by three daughters, Sonia Charlene Whittington, Mary Jo Holland and husband, Ed, Bobbie Jo Larrick and husband, Phil; and one son, Howard F. Whittington Jr. all of Hagerstown.
Nora was blessed with three grandsons, Derrick L. Whittington and wife, Krystal of Hagerstown, TSgt Jason L. Ferguson (serving in the United States Air Force) and wife, Brigitte, currently stationed in Utah, and Curtis D. Fogle of Greencastle, Pa.
Additionally she is blessed with five great grandchildren, Chance Parfitt and Haylee Whittington of Hagerstown, and Jocelyn, Jonas and Julian Ferguson currently residing in Utah.
Nora is survived by two brothers, Dean L. Bartles of Texas and Jacob Bartles of Hagerstown; and two sisters, Nellie Bouder of Waynesboro, and Mary Ann Hines of Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Pastor Bill Miller officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Private interment will be held at the Rocky Gap State Veterans Cemetery, Cumberland.
