CUMBERLAND Patricia Ann "Pat" (Norton) Jewell of The Lions Center, Cumberland, formerly of Ridgeley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
A St. Patrick's Day baby, Pat was born in Cumberland, on March 17, 1931. She was the daughter of the late William and Lena (Oates) Norton. She was also especially close to her late grandparents, Frank and Addie Norton. Following her high school graduation from St. Mary's High School in 1949, she married the love of her life and devoted herself to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and ultimately a great-great grandmother. Her family was her life's work and mission. She is survived by her son, The Rev. Richard Jewell and wife, Karen, Wiley Ford; daughter and namesake, Patricia "Patty" Corwell and husband, Dennis, Ridgeley; and by the joy of her later life, her youngest daughter, Julie Jo Negley and husband, Ted, Fenton, Mich.; six grandsons, Steve Jewell and wife, Amanda, Chapin Jewell and wife, Jenna, Chad Corwell and wife, Jennifer, Shane Corwell and wife, Melissa, and Cameron and Hunter Negley. In between were Nick and Tyler Corwell and Aaron Bartik, Alyssa and Ashlee Corwell, Carson and Connor Jewell, and Kylee McQuire. Last, but not least, were her two great-great grandsons, Eli and Luke Jewell, who brought her great joy in her last years. Pat also leaves behind two very close and dear friends, her cousin-in-law, Elise Michael and Jo Ann Lundy.
In her younger years, Pat and Joe enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, California, Las Vegas, and especially Walt Disney World, with their grandchildren in tow. Pat was also active in the PTA's of the former Ridgeley Schools and along with Joe were two of the parents of the 1950's through the 1980's that made Ridgeley such a special place to grow up and live. She will be greatly missed by her large family and many friends.
