Phillip C. "Phil" Sonner, 85, of Englewood, formerly of LaVale, Md., passes away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Tidewell Hospice House in Englewood, Fla.
Born Nov. 22,1931, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Joretha (Wright) Duckworth and stepfather Raymond Duckworth.
Phil enjoyed playing cards with all his Florida buddies. He also enjoyed riding his scooter with his friends and watching football. Phil loved the Florida lifestyle and made many new friends in Florida.
Raised in Cumberland, Md., he graduated from LaSalle High School. He was a US Navy veteran. Phil was retired from the Maryland State Highway Department.
Phil will be sadly missed by his best friend and wife of 25 years, Cheryl.
He is also survived by one daughter, Jill A. Sonner; and two grandchildren, Kylie Gordon, and Ryan Gordon;
stepdaughter ,Maranda J. Starliper and husband Roscoe; and grandson Cody (Codybug) Starliper;
Mother-in-law, Betty (Carder) Jones.
There will no viewing or memorial service upon Phil's request. It was his wishes that he be donated to science.
In honor of Phil make all memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
