Richard Melvin Blizzard, 81, of Virginia Street, Keyser, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born on March 10, 1936 at Franklin, Md., he was a son of the late Enoch Howard and Martha Susan (Alt) Blizzard. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Melvin Vernon Blizzard; a grandson, Jeremy Nathaniel Blizzard; and a sister, Margaret McGuinness.
Mr. Blizzard was a graduate of Bruce High School and was retired from the Westvaco Luke Mill with 42 years of service. A loving and devoted husband, father and pappy, he was a devoted member of the Piedmont Church of God for 71 years. He also was a self taught instrumentalist, playing the piano, organ, keyboard and guitar.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Ruth Sue (Via) Blizzard; four daughters, Kathy Sue Blizzard of Keyser, Naomi Christine Hitchins of Cumberland, Phyllis Ann McCarty and husband Danny, of Keyser and Nancy Lynn Baker Shockley of Keyser; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Blizzard, Joshua Hartman, Stephanie Hartman, Ashley See, David See, II, Felicia Goughenour, Brandon Welsh, Quinton Welsh, Heather Custer, Michael Baker, Marcus Baker and Kierstan Riggleman and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Lavine C. Cook of Keyser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ada Kittle officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
