Richard Michael Harvey, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, amongst friends and family after a two year battle with cancer.
He was raised in Westernport, where he graduated from Bruce High School and became an accomplished swimmer. He received an AA from Allegany Community College and attended Frostburg State University. Afterwards, he became a drug and addictions counselor for the Washington County Health Department.
He was known to a lot of people in his profession as someone who approached recovery from addictions with a certain love and compassion that was unmatched. It's with that same love and compassion that he approached most everything in his life including his affinity for music, being a father to his three children, and devoting his friendship to anyone that just needed someone to listen. His heart, guidance, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all of his surviving friends and family.
There will be a gathering of friends and family at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Saturday Dec. 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A reception and remembrance celebration will be held afterwards at Mezzo's Cumberland Room, 114 S Centre St, Cumberland, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to The Young Artist Series/Jefferson Arts Council at www.jeffersonartscouncil.org or mailed to: The Young Artist Series, PO Box 402, Shepardstown, W.Va. 25443.
