Rose Marie Coburn

Events

Rose Marie (Scarpelli) Coburn, 88, of St. Mary's Church Terrace, Lonaconing, died Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Egle Nursing Home. Born on June 19, 1931, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank Scarpelli and Mildred (Licciardone) Scarpelli.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Coburn Sr. and sister, Carmel Scarpelli.
Rose attended St. Michaels Catholic School and was a graduate of Beall High School. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, she was a life member of St. Mary's Sodality.
When in good health, she enjoyed socializing, working with the Sodality of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Lonaconing, and dining out with friends from her previous work place, the S. Schwab Company where she had been employed for over 25 years. It was the simple things in life that gave her the most pleasure; such as a drive into Amish County to purchase their goods, or just making her annual traditional Italian Easter bread that she loved to share with family and friends. She enjoyed visits from her Siberian husky fur baby "Samson," who will forever remain in her heart.
She is survived by her son, John W. Coburn Jr. of Lonaconing; a sister, Mary F. Scarpelli Black of Middleton; a brother, Joseph Scarpelli and wife, Karen, of Cumberland; and nieces and nephews, Matthew and Jodi Squires, Patrick and Janet Black, Kathy and Brian Young and Patty Robertazzara.
A memorial Mass and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Frostburg, with Fr. Eric Gauchat, OFM Cap., serving as celebrant. A light luncheon will follow in the St. Michaels Reception Hall.
A private inurnment at the family plot will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, in her name, at 716 Furnace St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
The care she received from the staff at Egle Nursing Home was like no other. During the eight months of her stay she received love, care and kindness; all while her dignity remained. Our family could not express the love and respect we have for Egle Nursing Home and staff and for everything they have done.
Many thanks to all who visited, called and sent cards with words of kindness and inspiration to let her know she remained in their thoughts and prayers.

It was a pleasure meeting and talking to your mother on several occasions in the park during special events in Lonaconing.
She knew almost all my family which they were also born and raised in Frostburg
She was a special lady and will be missed by many relatives and friends.
