Ruth A. Peer, 84, of Ridgeley, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Ruth was born in Fairfax, W.Va., on Jan. 15, 1933. She was the daughter of the late William Harrison and Evelyn Rose (White) Poling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Robert S. "Bunny" Peer Jr. and David O. Peer; daughter, Theresa J. Peer; great-grandson, Nathaniel Logsdon; brothers, Robert Poling, Raymond Poling, and James Poling; and sisters, Jean Chew, Louise Poling, Rose Poling, and Lila VanMeter.
Ruth was a graduate of the Catholic School System in Baltimore. Following high school, Ruth was a wife and stay-at-home mother. Once her children were raised, Ruth became a nursing assistant at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland. Ruth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Our Lady of Mountains Parish.
Ruth is survived by her husband, best friend, and soul mate of 66 years, Robert S. "Bunny" Peer Sr.; daughter, Eva C. Mace and husband, Robert, Cumberland; grandchildren, Christa Griffith and husband, "Tank," Rebecca Logsdon and husband, Alan, Danielle Kaiser and husband, David, Andrea Shaffer and husband, Don, Kathrine Geiger, and Jeffrey Geiger; great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Desiree, Michelle, Bryan, Jacob, Graci, Charlotte, and Dayton; great-great-granddaughter, Alee; sister, Hazel Ketterman and husband, Junior, Frostburg; and half-sisters, Lucy Albright and Patricia Albright. Ruth is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be "Tank" Griffith, Abe Kaiser, Jeffrey Geiger, Tony Smith, Bryan Kidwell, and Chuck Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Peer, Buddy Peer, and Mike Miltenberger.
