Ruth Carolyn Steele, 85, of Rawlings, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center.
Born February 22, 1932, in Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Steele was the daughter of the late Daniel Robert Lioy and Florence Lillian (Buffa) Lioy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Steele; her daughter, Catherine Pattison; and a brother, Paul Lioy.
A graduate of Altoona High School, Ruth was a former employee of McIntyre's Market and Zembower's Hardware. She was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church having served as church secretary for a number of years and was president of the Women's Guild. Ruth loved reading, sewing, crocheting, knitting and was very crafty. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her indoor plants.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Angelina Kerns and husband, James, Rawlings, and Debra Steele, Burlington, N.C. She also leaves behind her brother, Daniel Lioy and wife, Arlene; her sister, Gladys Sheibley; her son-in-law, Richard Pattison and wife, Patricia; and a special niece, Carol Johnson. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren, Curtis Pattison, Smithsburg, Nina Dicken and husband, Zachery, Cumberland, and Alexis Kerns, Rawlings; her great grandson, the love of her life, Weston Samuel Dicken; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, July 31, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Ruble officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Marilyn Nelson, Carolyn Myers, Julie Platt, Susan Keel, and her church family for all the care and compassion given to Ruth during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given in Ruth's name to the Trinity Lutheran Women's Guild, 326 N. Centre St., Cumberland.
