Shirley J. Wilson (Nee) Durst, 79, a resident of Pasadena for 48 years, and formerly of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in her home.
Shirley was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Frostburg, to the late Tommy and Lerdea Durst.
Shirley graduated from Beall High School, Frostburg, in 1955 and from Frostburg State in 1959. She worked for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for 33 years until her retirement in 2000 at the Riviera Beach Elementary School. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie where she participated in the prayer shawl ministry. She was nominated and awarded the Who's Who of American Teachers. She enjoyed bowling at the Bowl America, reading, crocheting, watching the Ravens and Orioles play, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her sister, Deanna Gordon.
She is survived by her daughters, Anna Zimmerman and husband, Jeff, of Pasadena, Betsy Weaver and husband, David, of Millersville, Linda Dumsha and husband, Chris, of Glen Burnie, Karen Wilson of Pasadena; grandchildren, Andrew Zimmerman, Zachary Wilson, Joshua Zimmerman, Jessica Dumsha, Christopher Dumsha, Jacey Weaver; step-grandchildren, Tara Stein, Matthew Weaver, Emily Neisser; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 308 Oak Manor Drive, Glen Burnie.
Burial will be held at Mount Zion Methodist Church, 16864 National Pike, Frostburg, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
