Sister Rose Mary Dougherty Sister Rose Mary Dougherty, SSND, of Baltimore, died on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Villa Assumpta, Baltimore.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Rosella Dougherty; also, three brothers, Thomas, Joseph and John; and two sisters, Rosemary and Dorothy Kelly.
She attended Girls Central School in Cumberland and joined the School Sisters of Notre Dame after graduating in 1957.
After her profession, she taught school in Baltimore, Annapolis and Ellicott City. She also worked at Shalome in Bethesda.
In 2008 she created an instructional program that was called Companioning the Dying. It is a 9-month course that provides instruction for Hospice workers, caregivers, volunteers and family members on how to be with someone in their final months or days.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister Mary Ellen Dougherty, SSND, and Catherine Rutledge of Savoy, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Clara Dougherty of Cumberland and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a loving and giving person and will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
There will be a memorial mass in her honor in the Chapel at Villa Assumpta, 6401 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md., on Monday, March 18, 2019, at 10:30 a.m.
