Terrance Anthony Ashby Sr., 67, of Cumberland, after a chronic illness, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1950, in Cumberland, Mr. Ashby was the son of the late Samuel Ashby and Betty (Hollingsworth) Ashby. He was also preceded in death by a son, Travis Ashby, and a brother, Alan Ashby.
Terry graduated from Allegany High School, Class of 1968, where he excelled in sports, particularly football. He did four years of active service in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Terry did a tour of duty in Vietnam and was awarded a few medals. For a brief period, Terry was employed by Celanese Fibers Corporation of America as a long distance truck driver in Rock Hill, S.C. His final employment was many years with the B&O Railroad as a carman. Terry enjoyed fishing and animals, always having a pet dog or two by his side.
Terry is survived by his sisters, Carol Paige, Hernando, Fla., and Pam Bullie and husband, Jam, Freedom, Pa. Terry has five living children, Terrance Jr., Jordan, Erin, Anthony, and Wyatt. He has numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and special friends.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St. (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com), on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by services at noon with the Rev. John Martin officiating.
Per Terry's requests, his final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for the excellent care provided to Terry during his final days.
