Thornton's Story

Thornton Ellsworth Robinette, 80, of Oldtown, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at his home.
Born Oct. 17, 1936, in Cumberland, Mr. Robinette was the son of the late Ralph Robinette and Clara (Stierstorfer) Robinette. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Robinette; and two sisters, Agnes Wigfield and Gladys Devito.
Thornton retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company with 30 years of service. He also worked at New Dominion School as an administrator. He served as a volunteer firefighter with District 16 Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a coach in the Dapper Dan Little League and loved the Baltimore Orioles. Thornton loved to fish, hunt, and garden. He was a tree farmer conservationist.
Thornton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith Ann (Slider) Robinette; and his children, Rick E. Robinette and wife, Beth; Lance R. Robinette and wife, Teresa; Timothy J. Robinette and wife, Tawny; and Jeffrey G. Robinette and wife, LuAnn. He also leaves behind his sisters, Elsie Morgan and Betty McLaughlin; and his brother, Edward T. Robinette. Thornton is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Robinette, Joshua Robinette, Andrea Robinette, Matthew Robinette, Adam Robinette, and Zachary Robinette; and his great grandchild, Asher Kincaid.
The family will hold a private celebration of Thornton's life at the family farm.
The family would like to extend a special thank to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center and Hospice Care for the care and compassion given to Thornton and his family.
