FROSTBURG Viola M. Drew, 97, of Frostburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.
Born Nov. 3, 1920, in Nikep, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Matthews Sr. and Charlotte (Kifer) Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Alfred Drew; two brothers, Harry Matthews and Hugh Matthews Jr.; one sister, Martha Mitchell; and sisters-in-law, Gertrude Loy and Elmira Drew.
Mrs. Drew graduated from Central High School, worked at Orts Bakery before becoming a fulltime mother and homemaker. She was a long-time member of Shaft United Methodist Church, and Farrady Post 24 American Legion Auxiliary. She and her husband, Alfred traveled all 50 states and enjoyed numerous trips they took over the years and the friends they made.
Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Brown and her husband, Henry Brown; one sister, Patricia Hollern and husband, Leo; sisters-in-law, Norma Matthews and Ruth Drew. There are many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to Randy Matthews, and Pamela Foote.
Special thanks to Viola's long-time sitters who were her extended family. They include Kathy Ashenfelter, Mary Jo Deffinbaugh, Ellen Whetstone and Virginia Cutter. Additionally, thanks to the caring direct care staff in various departments at Frostburg Nursing Home and Assistive Living.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, PA on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, from noon to 3 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home after the visitation at 3 p.m. with Chris Skidmore officiating.
Private interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
