BURLINGTON, W.Va. Viola L. Placka Martin, 101, of Northwestern Turnpike, Burlington, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney.
Born on Dec. 4, 1916, at Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Bessie (Lyons) Davis. Twice married, she was preceded by both husbands, Lee Placka, in 1987 and Seymour Martin, in 2001 and a sister, Hattie Shirley.
Mrs. Martin was formerly employed at the Davis Woolen Mill and the Keyser Garment Factory. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington.
Surviving are two sons, Fred Placka and wife, Beverly of Phoenix, Ariz., and Frank Placka and wife, Carol of Burlington; three grandchildren, Doug Placka and wife, Jane of Burlington, Deanna Vela and husband, Jay and Fred Placka II and wife, Bridget, all of California; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Placka and wife, Tiffany of Westernport, Jordan Placka of Burlington, Liana Averbeck and Jessie, Derrick and Niki Placka, all of California and three great-great grandchildren, Nadiyah and Hudson Placka and Adalynn Escott. Also surviving is her sister, Josephine Davis of Cumberland.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Thomas Caldwell Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Church Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
