Walter "Junior" Johnson, 92, of Cumberland died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Wimer, W.Va., on Sept. 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Walter O. and Argel (Lambert) Johnson.
Junior was a Navy veteran serving on board the Naval War Ship USS Philadelphia during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, Junior was employed at the USDA in Beltsville as a machinist. Junior was also a member of American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. (Lee) Johnson; son-in-law, Jim Tkacz; and his sisters-in law, Carol and Shirley Johnson.
Junior is survived by his daughter, Paula G. Tkacz of Fairfield, Calif.; his son, Walter Johnson III and wife, Kathleen, of Laurel; grandchildren, Jimmy Tkacz, Amber Zetina, Dr. Kimberly Allen, Ph.D., Warren Johnson, and Brittany Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ayden Zetina, Jaxon Zetina, Olivia Tkacz, and Alexus Broom; brothers, Robert R. Johnson, Baltimore, and Stanley Johnson, Cumberland.
Graveside services will be conducted at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at 1 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
