William Randolph Athey Sr., 72, of Hanover, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Hanover Hospital.
William was born on Oct. 23, 1945, in Cumberland and was the son of the late Raymond and Juanita (Spriggs) Athey. He was the loving husband of Ruth Athey, whom he married on June 11, 1966.
William graduated from Fort Hill High School, Class of 1963. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed for Black and Decker in Hampstead as a machine operator for 23 years and retired from Littlestown Keystone where he worked as a machine operator for 20 years. William enjoyed bowling, sports, metal scrapping, and playing the slot machines. He was a member of Black Rock Brethren Church in Hanover.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son and daughter-in-law, William A. Athey Jr. and Marissa Athey of Hanover; brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. Athey Sr. and Kathy and their family of Hanover; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and George Copenhaver and their family of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; granddaughters, Marianne A. Delacruz and Ruth V. Athey; and sisters-in-law, Linda Nield and Phyllis Izzett, both of Cumberland.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Park and Cemetery, Bedford Road NE, Cumberland.
