William Joseph DeSoto

William Joseph DeSoto, 94, of Bedford, Pa., passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home, Duncansville.
Born Jan. 9, 1923, in Lorain, Ohio, Mr. DeSoto was the son of the late William DeSoto and Beatrice (Hoff) DeSoto. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Irena DeSoto; a sister, Rozella Heavner; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bill was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1940. After graduation, he worked for the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America for two years. Bill was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served with 147th T-5 Engineers landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy, on D-Day. He retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Company with 35 years of service. Bill enjoyed going to dirt track races and NASCAR races. In the late 1950s, both he and his wife, Blanche drove the stock cars. Bill continued to travel to races in his motor home until 2006. He and his wife traveled a lot and attended Bluegrass festivals. Bill was a member of the Queen City Travelers Camping Club.
He is survived by his son, David DeSoto and wife, Monica, Bedford.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, Md., (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday Nov. 24, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Robin Kirchner officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Kensington, Frostburg Village Nursing Home, and the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for all the care and compassion given. Also a special thank you to the Comfort Keepers, especially to Janet Rymes, for all her help, support, and care.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Living Waters Ministry, 784 Fayette Street, Cumberland, Md. 21502.
