William Charles Harris, 69, of Short Gap, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 9, 1948, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Arthur Charles and Rita Mary (Waldhauser) Harris.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Erna; four children, Robert Harris and wife Melissa, Stephen Harris, Gina Cassell and husband Stuart, and Sandra Bennett and husband Greg; 13 loving grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanora Barale and Rita Debelius; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harris was a decorated Viet Nam veteran, having earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Valor while in the U.S. Army
He was retired from Black & Decker, where he was a pressman. Mr. Harris had also worked at Pilgrim's Pride.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m., with Fr. Michael Lecias, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Cumberland Chapter #172, Viet Nam Veterans of America.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
